Core Competencies
Standards of Professional Performance
Standard 7. Quality of Practice
This standard speaks to the nurse administrator systematically enhancing the equality and effectiveness of nursing practice, nursing services administration, and the delivery of services. We have an active safety and quality improvement committee that reviews nursing care delivery to ensure safety and quality standards are met such as pain control and patient satisfaction. Quality of practice is multifacted and different measures are needed based on current patient care outcomes. As a nurse leader I support ongoing measurement of quality care.
Standard 8. Education
This standard states the nurse administrator attains knowledge and competency that reflects current practice. As a nurse manager I participate in ongoing education through the organizational leadership institute at my organization. I am currently completing a masters degree in nursing with an emphasis on nursing administration. Education is a lifelong process. As a nurse manager I work to ensure staff are provided with continuous learning opportunities and support their endeavors in specialty certification and nursing degree completion.
Standard 9. Profession practice evaluation
The nurse administrator evaluates own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules, and regulations. Through annual competencies in nursing practice and leadership, my professional abilities are measured and evaluated. Through self evaluation and peer evaluation my skills are assessed throughout the year. I am evaluated annually by my nursing director and held accountable to system and departmental goals.
